Short story Silent guardian
SILENT GUARDIAN
Dr. Fedal, a brilliant
bioengineer, and his best friend, Dr. Fareem, a computer science technology
engineer, always worked on new projects aimed at helping the medical society.
The driving force behind their projects was the loss of both their parents to
cancer.
One day, after the final test, Dr. Fareem
entered the lab with excitement.
Fareem: Fedal, this is awesome! Our project is working. It’s
unbelievable! Imagine a world where we can detect diseases before symptoms even
appear. We could save countless lives.
Fedal, with a hint of concern, couldn't
express his feelings and excitement fully.
Fedal: But we need to be cautious, Fareem. Privacy concerns will be a major
hurdle. People won’t easily accept the idea of a chip inside them, constantly
transmitting data to a government database.
Fareem replied, trying to reassure him.
Fareem: But our chip is mostly for detecting cancer cells in
the early stage and treating people right away. It could save lives.
Despite their concerns, they decided to
meet with the government representative, Agent Rasja, and went to the
government office.
Agent Rasja welcomed them.
Agent Rasja: Welcome, doctors. I’ve read your proposal, and I had
a meeting with the Prime Minister and Health Secretary. They are really
impressed and about to pass this bill in Parliament. They believe it could
transform healthcare and prevent cancer.
Dr. Fedal hesitated and expressed his
concerns.
Fedal: But what about privacy? We can’t ignore the ethical aspects of this.
Agent Rasja replied confidently.
Agent Rasja: There will be strict regulations in place. The data
will be anonymized, and only health professionals will have access. The
benefits outweigh the concerns.
As news of the sensor chip spread, the
public reacted with a mix of excitement and opposition. At a nationwide protest
against the new law, citizens voiced their concerns about privacy and
government control.
Ms. Patricia, a concerned citizen, stood
up.
Ms. Patricia: I don’t want the government monitoring my every move.
The opposition party voted against the new healthcare measure in Parliament, leading to a compromise. Strict regulations were put in place, and the government announced that it is not mandatory to have a chip inside the body; it's entirely optional
Finally, a national referendum was
announced about this new technology. Fedal and Fareem campaigned for it, but
the people voted no, with 52% against and 48% in favour. The government dropped
the plan.
Fareem was very sad, and Fedal tried to
console him.
Fedal: Don’t worry, mate. At least we tried. We need to respect people's
concerns and privacy. We have a lot more to do to help society, and we can
focus on that.

I drew inspiration for this story concept from a news article during the COVID-19 pandemic. The article highlighted public concerns regarding the COVID vaccine, with some people entertaining a myth about the insertion of a tracking chip through the vaccine. Captivated by this real-world scenario, I began crafting the narrative on a WordPad. The inclusion of parliamentary and political elements in the story reflects my observations and insights drawn from daily news consumption.
I kept my AI usage very low in this story .
